What’s it all about, Sheena?

If you’ve been wondering what on earth I’ve been up to lately, here are the answers to your questions.

Do you still make chocolates?

Yes, I still make chocolates, but I’m on a summer break. Why? Because my kitchen is too humid until late September and the chocolate melts too easily! And I’ve got other exciting news. I’m mentoring other business women who want what I’ve got.

How did you become a business mentor for other women?

In the autumn of 2022, I decided to seek out some more chocolate lovers as potential clients. That meant stepping out of my comfort zone and networking.

I went to a BWC Glasgow event. Little did I know that, in no time at all, I’d be invited to become one of BWC’s Ambassadors and become a mentor for women entrepreneurs aiming for the top of their game. That’s how it all began.

What’s your story, Sheena?

I’ve run a business for most of my working life.

  • 1980s - Golfing Holidays company

  • 1990s - Customer Service and Sales Consultancy.

  • 2000s - Executive Coach.

In between, I worked in sales for learning and development companies and as a trainer in sales, marketing and management. I was even a Business Development Director in the IT industry. I worked with start-ups and large multinational corporations here in the United Kingdom and in the States.

When I started my chocolate business, I thought my time as a coach was over. Then out of the blue, someone asked me to mentor them. Then another woman asked the same. I knew this was my opportunity to shine in a different way.

Who mentored you?

I’ve been in the learning and development space since its infancy. That means I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing teachers. I’ll tell you about two of them -

  • Meredith Belbin of Belbin’s Team Roles

  • Tim Gallwey of the Inner Game series

Both these men influenced my life in so many ways. They saw me in a way that I didn’t always see myself. They recognised a highly capable woman, with authority that other people adored. They also really respected the experience and personality I brought to my work.

How did your own experience shape your mentoring?

I’m one of those people who never stop learning. When the pandemic started, I took it upon myself to understand more about my behaviour. Specifically, I wanted to understand why I never really felt part of my family.

I wasn’t unhappy. But I needed to know why I always felt small and insignificant in the presence of my family and some other people. I was always the life and soul of the party at work and with good friends. So why did I feel like I had to fight to be myself at other times? Now I know that lots of other people share this feeling.

How did finding Human Design change everything?

For years, I had this voice in my head telling me I had to control myself and not be too loud.

I needed to ignore it, but couldn’t seem to do that until I found Human Design.

Some people might see Human Design as a bit woo. I think that’s a mistake. When you’re a grounded person, Human Design is a tool that can transform your life. It helps you create the best environment, work life and opportunities - the perfect ones that light you up.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that Human Design blew my mind. Suddenly I had the answer to why I felt so small sometimes. I also knew why, at other times, I felt totally comfortable standing in my magnificence.

If you use Human Design correctly, it’s psychometric testing on steroids. Truly powerful.
